i'd give this a 3.5 if it was an option. it is particularly effective for novices in burning. it's much less intimidating than nero burning rom 10 or 11, for example, and much less bloated.i'm glad that the program is out there and that it's free. yes, i wish it did more and was slightly more intuitive but it's still worth using.
getting rid of this and quicktime was one of the best days my computer ever had. bye bye apple
granted a good programmer can write good code. but structured programming from the basic world is no longer adapted for object oriented programming. unless i am unfortunate but what i have seen is that developers used to the structured programing approach don't transition well to oop. the old habits which have some remnants in syntax and style are minor. the abuse of broad scoping in variables, & method is already more annoying. the tendency of designing a class as a "module" which results in a monolithic class "do everything", the lack of encapsulation, the little use of inheritance (if ever), etc. are clearly a maintenance burden. even though a class designed in a "basic" way of thinking fulfills perfectly the requirements. the only problem is a higher maintenance effort.even an excellent implementation of basic will be subject to subtle side effects and will suffer some difficulties to cope with specs change. because it doesn't have the facilities of abstraction, inheritance, polymorphism, etc. that oop provides.and as unbelievable as it could appears, i know quite well basic actually (or may be too well?). i have learn oop and forced myself to think oop. writing good code that works is fine. writing robust code, side-effects free, which evolves better with lower maintenance is better achieved with oop.if you think basic can still fit your coding needs then, by all means use it. the comments below are pretty much similar to what i used to get from "old school" senior developers. i have no trouble of people getting the job done. but in a team working with oop language and some developers still think the "basic" way, that hinders the team efforts and set bad example for junior developers.
no information on what the differences are between: standard, enterprise, datacenter, web server editions...
it's simply there best, better than all the rest ~
a nice utility with the ability to search exe and dll files for icons/icon libraries. also really nice icon creator (studio) and a nice variety of tweaks which can be made to standard windows icons. however, that's pretty much where it ends. i haven't been able to make the icons animate on my system. also, it is stated within the program that microsoft removed the ability to change icons on the start menu, but it's a shame they can't get it going somehow. i would really like to change some of the standard icons. this more strange with all the other tweaks which can be applied to windows xp (ie. changing the logon screen). however, still a good utility, but could use a few improvements.
i had problems:
when will they ever release a build containing version 1 through 3.5 inclusive, so we don't have to install every version sequentially to get to the latest one?
in reply to kuhgl's post:very well said kurt, i agree with you 100%. rather than posting semi negative statements that are not true people should really do just as you mentioned and that is "simply consult (read) the python website". not only on this site but also on others i have noticed that certain people will post negative statements referring to a product, or a condemning statement aimed towards someone who simply wanted to voice their opinion. it is sad that some people allow themselves to succumb to a reprobate mind. thanks kurt for being truthful and honest!
